This paper intends to make a brief presentation of the intellectual history of criticmusical José Ramos Tinhorão from the analysis of some of his articles from the column "Popular Music", published among the years of 1974 and 1982. These articles, which used the release of records of popular music as a pretext to show the problems of socio-economic culture of the moment are representative of a particular political culture of this time, nationalist and Marxist.
