Abstract

First impressions can be misleading. That's true of New Morning Natural Foods, where incense, an array of designer cookware and vegetarian cookbooks are the first things you will see. Yet for all that, this is very much a food store, specializing (as its name implies) in natural and organic products, often from local sources. This applies particularly to the fruits and vegetables, where many tags indicate the Connecticut farm that grew the produce. Recent highlights were apples from Averill Farm and High Hill Orchard (from $1.49 to $1.79 a pound); organic arugula and kale from Fort Hill Farm ($5 a bag); and onions and fingerling potatoes grown in Bethlehem.
