Abstract

Objective The Pd(II) complex with pyridine?2,6?dicarboxylic acid (L) has been obtained. Methods The complex was synthesized in good yields and characterized by elemental analysis and IR spectra. We analyze the ability of the complex to cleave the pBR 322 plasmid DNA, cytotoxicity and apoptotic. Results Gel electrophoresis assay demonstrates the ability of the complex to cleave the pBR 322 plasmid DNA.The complex show cytotoxic specificity and have an apoptotic effect on HeLa cells. Conclusion The complex exhibit an efficient DNA-cleavage activity, cytotoxic studies show that the title complex exhibit cytotoxic activity against different cell lines, especially more effective against KB cell lines in general test. Additionally, the apoptotic tests indicated that the complex had an apoptotic effect on HeLa cells. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
