Abstract

The article offers information on the development of the computer software Ushahidi that helps populations cope with crisis in Birmingham, Alaska. It states that the software is developed by Web developer David Kobia as a personal project that later becomes a public arena for Kenyan politics and a disaster rescue and relief network. It notes that the software has been used to monitor elections in Sudan, document violence in Gaza and assist earthquake recovery efforts in Haiti.
