The author stresses the need for the composites industry, which faces U.S. troop drawdowns in Iraq and Afghanistan that will reduce demand for military composites, to seek opportunities and to think creatively about how composites can be further adapted to replace metals and other materials throughout the manufacturing sector. He notes that the wars in the two nations have been profitable for military contractors. He adds that the automobile industry has reorganized itself to emphasize electric driven technology that may attract new uses of composites.
