Abstract

The perovskite oxide-type of the compound LaCoO3 has attracted considerable interest because of its magnetic and electrical behavior. This material, which is known within the insulating Mott-type, corresponds to a thermoelectric with good expectations for applications in electronic devices. Its properties of transport are strongly related to the spin states of cobalt. In this work we have produced and characterized structural and magnetically, sintered polycrystalline samples of LaCoO3. Polycrystalline samples of LaCoO3 were prepared by the method of solid-state reaction, using a temperature of 1000°C for 96 hours, and using as precursors La2O3 and CoO2. From x-ray diffraction measurements carried out on the material, we have identified the characteristic peaks of the LaCoO3 compound. Measurements of the magnetic properties at low temperatures have shown the presence of a weak ferromagnetism. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
