Abstract

The article reports findings from the U.S. National Center on Performance Incentives' Project on Incentives in Teaching program, which was designed to study bonus pay for teachers. The article reveals that the merit pay system had no overall impact on academic achievement for students according to the study of 300 teachers in Nashville, Tennessee. Other topics include teacher's unions, U.S. Department of Education policy, and the federal performance-pay system Teacher Incentive Fund (TIF).
