Abstract

This paper makes an attempt to characterize the intellectual peculiarities of patients with sensory aphasia. Long and detailed observation of more than 50 patients has shown that the most important factor in these cases is the inability to differentiate between speech sounds. This in turn affects other language levels, semantic, syntactic and grammatical, and also the personality and intellectual activity of the patients. The effects of aphasia on these features and on the comprehension of speech and the active speech behaviour of the patients are described. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
