The paper considers legal aspects of cross-border cooperation in the Republic of Croatia. Crossborder cooperation in the Republic of Croatia has been referred to regional development policy and the Government of the Republic of Croatia estimates cross-border cooperation as one of the great possibilities for balanced and sustainable development of the Republic of Croatia but also as a part of the general strategy for EU accession. The author defines basic terms such as region, regionalism and cross-border cooperation and then gives historical survey of how cross-border cooperation came to being. Furtheron it gives a survey of legal framework for cross-border cooperation in the Republic of Croatia with special reference to date experience of Slavonia and Baranja in connecting neighbouring areas, first of all within the framework of Euroregional cooperation of the Danube-Drava-Sava rivers.
