Abstract
- With opening night (and performances for the critics) fast approaching, the creators of the new Broadway musical ''Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown'' added several changes for Tuesday night's audience, most noticeably a new number at the top of the show that had been the Act II opener. The song, ''Madrid,'' is much more upbeat than the original first song, ''My Crazy Heart,'' which had the women of the title describing their feelings about love before they had been established as characters for the audience. ''Madrid,'' a jubilant serenade to the setting of the show, is still sung by the character of the taxi driver (played by Danny Burstein), who functions as a kind of narrator. Act II now opens with a new entr'acte followed by the character Candela (Laura Benanti) calling out to her best friend and the show's central character, Pepa (Sherie Rene Scott).
