Abstract
- Lawrence Scarf (Sociological Review Vol. 36, no. 1) proposes a 'sociology of culture' as the site for a comparison between Weber and Simmel's responses to 'modernity'. It is suggested that in so doing Scarf neglects important differences and similarities between Weber and Simmel's accounts of culture and selfhood. I argue that these are as much a product of specific analytical commitments as of intellectual-historical milieu. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
