Grand Challenge Commentary: Chassis cells for industrial biochemical production.

In this article the authors discuss the challenges involving chassis cells which are self-replicating and can be modified for the creation of certain chemicals. It says that new technologies for biocatalyst design are crucial in furthering the field. However, it states that these processes cannot have an impact if they are not largely accessible. It adds that the chassis cell challenge will catalyze a faster move from a worldwide economy that is petrochemical-based to one that is bio-based.
