Presented is a political survey of the country of the Czech Republic for the year 2009. It is noted that for the first half of 2009 the Czech Republic presided over the European Council. A number of other developments and events are discussed including the disruption of the supplies of natural gas caused by the Russian and Ukrainian gas dispute, the collapse of the cabinet that was brought about by a vote of no confidence sponsored by the opposition Social Democratic Party, and the election for members of the European Parliament.
