Rescue of Severely Immunocompromised HIV-Positive Persons.

In this article, the author discusses the recommendations of the World Health Organization to limit the use of zidovudine above stavudine for the treatment of HIV infection. The authors say that stavudine was allowed in a trial by many participants even though guidelines recommend limiting the use of stavudine. The authors suggest that a reasonable approach would be to regard stavudine use when no other alternatives exist.
