Abstract

The article presents a discussion regarding the evolutionary relationship between dinosaurs and birds through an examination of fossils which show the development of feathers on some dinosaur species. It focuses on discoveries made in the ancient lakebeds of the Liaoning province of China by paleontologists to describe similarities in the skeletal and anatomical structures that exist between birds and dinosaurs. It presents comments from several paleontologists including Matthew Carrano, Phillip Currie, and Zhou Zhonghe regarding the fossils and mentions multiple dinosaurs including the Archaeopteryx, the Sinosauropteryx, and the Velociraptor. It also provides comments from dinosaur scientist Xu Xing on factors that contributed to the evolution of feathers on dinosaurs.
