Abstract

In this article the author examines analysis of the measurement of texts and information in a library setting, and in application to the information sciences. The article notes that this type study, also known as bibliometrics, is a quantitative method for measuring the literature on a particular issue and is used to identify publication and authorship. A number of topics are addressed including journals as a signifier of literature growth, the philosophy and goals of a library, and the analysis of articles and citations.
