Abstract
- The author examines the possible egalitarian tendency of America's colonial English Puritans as opposed to the common perception given to Puritans. He concurs that, with reference to Christianized Indians, New England Puritans kept an open mind to the active role of women in church activity. He adds that missionaries were convinced to reconsider their basic notions of God's plans for Christians through interaction with Indians. The reconsideration, though, was bounded by limitations.
