Abstract: The article discusses the highlights of the ninth Conference and General Meeting of the Herpetological Association of Africa (HAA), held at Sterkfontein Dam, Free State, South Africa, from November 26 to 29, 2008. A workshop titled "Science, Pets and Permits: Collecting and Keeping Herps in South Africa" was conducted. Three special events also took place, including the Banquet, the Award for Exceptional Contribution to African Herpetology, and an auction of books, papers and artwork.
