Abstract

The article offers a look at the efforts of automatic dishwasher detergent (ADW) manufacturers in the U.S. to seek the help of the chemical industry to make their products phosphate free. It cites the response of consumers to the initiative of Procter & Gamble to lessen the phosphate content of its Cascade ADW. The alternative products being promoted by the chemical industry to address the phosphate gap in the ADW industry are also mentioned. The role of protease and amylase enzymes in phosphate-free ADW is also explained.
