Abstract

The article focuses on the factors that affect the missing-girl problem in China, including policy, abortion, and culture. It states that the sex-ratio imbalance in the nation is usually observed as an accidental consequence of its population-control policies. It says that the significance and scale of missing girls problem in China can be examined through historical demographic study and statistics. It discusses the causes and potential solutions to China's sex ratio imbalances and the factors impacting the diminishing intercountry adoptions from the nation. It notes that the imbalance shows the need for culture-specific examination of gender discrimination. It mentions that sex-selective abortion is the major way of eliminating women in the country.
