Abstract

The article discusses the legacy of the 1984 Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal, India. According to the author, the area surrounding the Union Carbide complex is still considered a global toxic hotspot and has been declared unfit for human habitation. Greenpeace and the Indian Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) say it is a lingering environmental and humanitarian problem that Union Carbide and the Indian government has not been able to solve.
