Abstract

The authors discuss the association between microRNA and methylation regulation by DNA methyltransferases (Dnmt) and the role of microRNA in lupus CD4+ T cell hypomethylation and the pathogenesis of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE). A critical review of and main differences between two studies focusing on the role of microRNA overexpression affecting the DNA methylation mechanism in SLE T cells including one by S. Zhao and colleagues, and the other by W. Pan and colleagues, is provided.
