Abstract

This article reports on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and its Clean Air Act related to air pollution in Chicago, Illinois. Chicago's Fisk Station and Crawford Station coal-fired power plants contribute to the region's high rates of asthma. The article discusses how the fine particle and carbon dioxide pollution continue due to a loophole in the Clean Air Act. The article describes efforts to shut down the plants and the opposition to the plan from the Republican Party. Information is also provided on environmental groups, President Barack Obama, and climate change.
