Abstract

The article offers information on a study designed to compile a list of preliminary species such as Soutpansberg reptiles and endemic species. It states that the study involves conducting visual search and assessment of hiding places including rock cracks, leaf litter, and caves during daytime and at night between April and September 2005, February and March 2006, and April to December 2007. Results show that the Lajuma Research Centre has recorded 38 reptile species, which represent 18 snake and 20 lizard species that belong to 32 genera and 13 families. Moreover, it states that the species list increased to 53 species because of 12 additional species found in Soutpansberg east of Lajuma including one chelonian, one amphisbaenian, and 25 lizards.
