Abstract
- Abstract: Polyetherketone cardo (PEK-C) nanofibres containing vapour-grown carbon nanofibres (VGCNFs) were electrospun, and used for toughening and reinforcing a triglycidyl amino phenol (TGAP) epoxy resin. The addition of PEK-C/VGCNF nanofibres to the epoxy resin led to the distribution of VGCNFs primarily within the phase separated PEK-C-rich domains. Synergistic effects of thermoplastic PEK-C and VGCNFs on the mechanical properties, phase morphologies and thermal stability of the resultant epoxy matrix composites were observed when the PEK-C/CNF nanofibres were blended at a low content into the epoxy resin. Strong and tough multifunctional nanocomposites were prepared with the addition of 5wt.% PEK-C/CNF nanofibres to the epoxy matrix. [Copyright &y& Elsevier]
