Abstract

The article reports that the Hamaoka nuclear power plant, located in the coastal city of Omaezaki, has been shut down pending the construction of a massive protective sea wall. It states that the Hamaoka plant sits next to the junction of two major geological faults and was considered the most vulnerable plant prior to the tsunami that struck the Fukushima nuclear complex in March 20111. It mentions construction of the 15-meter-high sea wall could take up to three years.
