Abstract
- The article discusses the Virginia Ordinance of Secession, a document adopted by the General Assembly of Virginia at a state congressional convention in May of 1861 to authorize the state's decision to secede from the U.S. It explores the origins of various copies of the Ordinance that exist in 2011 including a parchment copy produced by penman William Flegenheimer, lithographic versions produced by the printing studio Hoyer and Ludwig, and an original copy owned by the Library of Virginia.
