Abstract
- The article discusses 2011 cuts in U.S. federal funds supporting foreign language education despite emphasis on the importance of bilingualism by U.S. President Barack Obama and Secretary of Education Arne Duncan. Organizations such as the University of California, Los Angeles, which sponsors an effort encouraging bilingualism in heritage speakers, and the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages express dismay about the cuts at a time when government needs for bilingual workers.
