Abstract

In this paper, the development of an innovative nonlinear control scheme is traced for the looper and tension system in hot strip finishing mills. The proposed scheme is based on almost disturbance decoupling and feedback linearization control. First, the system is full-state-linearized using feedback linearization. Then, almost disturbance decoupling controllers are used to attenuate the disturbances. As a result, by tuning the disturbance attenuation parameter within the actuator limitations, the effect of the disturbance on the strip tension and looper angle can be attenuated to an arbitrary degree of accuracy. Simulation results show the effectiveness of the proposed controllers compared with the conventional ones. [ABSTRACT FROM PUBLISHER]
