The Precarious Balance between General and Vocational Education in the Netherlands.

The purpose of this paper is to present some aspects of the precarious balance between Dutch general and vocational education. I will start with a brief outline of the relevant characteristics of the Dutch educational system, as regards the link between general and vocational education. The next two sections present trends in the occupancy of vocational and general education and some information on the individual benefits of general and vocational education.
