Conclusions: The author postulates the use of countertransference as one of the facets that differentiates psychoanalysis from the broad field of the psychotherapies. He mentions that the tendency to avoid it by important schools of thought in the contemporary practice of psychoanalysis places it in a controversial position, since it alludes tangentially to the relation that its exclusion may have to the tendency these days to "save" time, no matter what the cost.
