Abstract

Objective: This paper states that those factors traditionally used by psychiatry for the assessment of suicidal risk are insufficient and not conclusive since they appear outside the clinical experience. Development: The author shows how clinical interview, which is not included among those factors, is the most sensitive and determinating element, since it gives direct evidence of their presence or absence. Results and conclusions:The patient's ability to receive and utilize the therapist's contributions is related to his or her capability to establish emotional links. When K link is achieved, the unconscious factors that underlie the suicidal act can be known and elaborated, which in its turn runs inversely proportional to suicidal risk. The role of the interview, besides its possible therapeutic function, is to assess these aspects in the patient. Clinic cases are presented, it is discuss the role played by ethics in the counter transference of this situations. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
