Abstract

The article discusses the future of nuclear power after the 2011 Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident in Japan. The downsizing of the nuclear industries in Japan, Germany, and Switzerland suggest nuclear power is in a decline, but figures from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) suggest many plants elsewhere are being built or planned. Criteria a country needs to introduce nuclear power are listed including robust electricity grids, stable governments, and strong economies.
