Abstract

An interview with former U.S. Navy vice admiral William P. Lawrence is presented. He discusses his time as a test pilot with the U.S. Navy during the 1950s. He gives his thoughts on the U.S. Navy's Test Pilot School, its curriculum in mathematics, aerodynamics, and physics, and the testing involved in pilot instruction. He offers his impressions of various planes that he flew including the F9F-6 and FJ-4F Fury. He also discusses his medical disqualification from the U.S. space program.
