Abstract

The article discusses the economic impact of the 2011 Earthquake in Japan. Topics include a possible economic recession in Japan after a decline in the GDP (gross domestic product), the large debt burden of Japan, and the finances of the disaster relief. Discussion is included about a potential global economic crisis prompted by the Japanese economic decline such as the crisis in 2008. Problems related to the use of nuclear power in light of the Fukushima nuclear accident after the earthquake are also discussed. It is suggested that the earthquake could have lasting economic effects on Japan and the world.
