Abstract

The article discusses the two sides of the Food Movement in the U.S. The article notes that while the number of hungry people worldwide has increased and only 10 U.S. corporations hold more than half U.S. food and beverage sales, the grassroots global food movement has become increasingly active. The article discusses improvements in farmworkers' circumstances, land ownership reform in Brazil, and anti-GMO (genetically modified organisms) seeds activism. Narratives from food researchers, authors, and activists Raj Patel, Vandana Shiva, and Michael Pollan are presented.
