Abstract

The article focuses on the deteriorating situation in the education of rural students. Statistics from universities are cited including Tsinghua University, Peking University and China Agricultural University. Factors responsible for the imbalance are presented such as hukou or registered permanent residence, the unequal distribution of educational resources, and the dearth of quality teachers. The impact of reforms on examinations is discussed together with those of super middle schools.
