Abstract
- The article focuses on the nature of the individual in pragmatism and constructivism. It presents a brief history of the notion of the individual in social psychology in which philosopher Kenneth Gergen is credited for pursuing the social and historical context for the individual. The notion of the individual by philosopher John Dewey is stated as being based on social practices. Also discussed is how emotional expression and grief in particular is understood by individuals in a social context.
