Medical Device Innovation — Is “Better” Good Enough?

This article assesses the introduction of innovations in the medical device industry in the U.S. It explores the decision of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to approve a number of medical devices. It raises the concerns over the efficacy, durability and safety of medical devices. A model-based approach to improving the evaluation of devices is discussed.
