The author discusses the copyright infringement lawsuit filed by the Authors' Guild and other authors' groups outside the U.S. against HathiTrust and the universities of California, Cornell, Indiana, Michigan and Wisconsin. The lawsuit involves the HathiTrust and universities' possession and use of 7 million digital book copies that were scanned by Google for them. The lawsuit also touched on HathiTrust and groups' policies to share and distribute orphan works from the Google collections.
