Abstract

The article describes the case of a four-day old female infant who had a history of fever and fussiness. After physical examination, the child was started on ampicillin and gentamicin but she remained febrile and fussy. She progressed to lethargy and poor feeding. A magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was ordered and she was transferred to the neonatal intensive care unit. She also developed tonic-clonic movements of the upper extremities and she was later diagnosed with encephalitis.
