Abstract
- The article investigates whether history supports the interpretation of the mythic fight of the U.S. Marines at the June 1918 World War I Battle of Belleau Wood in France. Many legends spawned Belleau Wood such as the Marines' semi-official nickname Devil Dogs and the Marine brigade stopping the German's Operation Blücher in Paris, France in 1918. An analysis of the strategic situation of the Germans after failures of massive offenses showed the German operational and tactical objectives.
