Abstract

The article presents a survey of the structural problems associated with variable sweep winged aircraft. Some of the advantages of wing sweep in an aircraft design are examined, including reduced fatigue damage. The two types of structural problems associated with variable geometry aircraft are discussed. Also provided are examples of different concepts for wing pivot mechanisms.
