Abstract

In the United States, over 7.3 million women suffer from infertility. Twenty percent of infertilityare due to uterine anomalies. Without the presence of a functioning uterus, pregnancy is extremely difficult or impossible. Advancements in fertility options as well as organ transplantation technologies have made uterine transplantations a possibility. The procedure allows women previously unable to conceive to become pregnant. It is important to examine the potential implications of utilizing this method as means of reproductive therapy. Because the risks of uterine transplantation are not completely understood. In order to protect the health of potential mothers and fetuses, uterine transplantation should not be used as a means of reproductive therapy. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
