Abstract

The article discusses the Osoyoos Indian Band's certification by the First Nation Financial Management Board (FNFMB) which will allow the tribe to develop infrastructure and community assets faster than they would with government funding alone. By seeking funds from the First Nation Finance Authority, the Osoyoos can borrow funds at lower, fixed interest rates than they could from private sector banks. The article quotes Harold Calla, chair of the FNFMB, and, in addition to the Osoyoos, the article also references the Songhees and Tzeachten tribes, all of British Columbia.
