Abstract

The article presents a research study on the evolution of endospory. It provides an introduction to the development of a gametophyte within an endospory. It describes the species Nothoceros renzagliensis from Pasto Colombia and cites its differences from its congeners. It assess the evolution of endospory in hornworts, and discusses two cases of parallel evolution of the trait in the hornwort phylogeny.
