Abstract
- The article features the University of North Texas (UNT). The UNT is the first university in the U.S. to offer a jazz degree and has earned the reputation of being a talent incubator. It has several music programs and is best known for its One O'Clock Lab Band which has earned several Grammy nominations and recorded 60 albums. Former members of the Lab Band include Marc Johnson, Bill Evans, Herb Ellis and Jimmy Giuffre. Saxophonist Shelley Carroll is one of the school's famous alumni.
