The article focuses on the effort by chemical companies to replace nitrogen trifluoride in the electronics industry with an environmentally friendly gas. It explains the role played by nitrogen trifluoride in the fabrication of electronics. Fluorine has been offered by Linde as an alternative to nitrogen. Research showed that only 1.7% of Air Products' nitrogen was lost during its life cycle. The increase in the calls for regulating nitrogen trifluoride is discussed.
