Materials research in africa: Rising from the Falls.

Information about the several papers discussed at the Sixth International Conference of the African Materials Research Society (MRS), held at Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, from December 11 to 16, 2011, on Africa's pressing needs and challenges related to materials science and technology, is presented. Topics related to a systematic approach to evaluate the mechanical properties and porosity of clay ceramics and photoelectrochemical solar cells are discussed.
