Information is presented about several papers discussed at the conference "Music and Imagined Communities. Articulations of the Self and the other in the Musical Realm," held at the European University Institute in Florence, Italy from October 28 to October 29, 2011. Topics examined include musical theater in Egypt and vernacular Arab theater, the globalization of Islamic pop music, and opera and Italians in New York City.
